About
Welcome to my humble website/blog. My name is Matthew Perry. I graduated in 2000 with Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in statistics from Virginia Tech. My main focus was social science survey research. From there a few interesting career twists and turns led me to pursue a Certificate of Study in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing from Humboldt State University in northern California. After my certificate program, I stayed at Humboldt State to get my Master of Science in Natural Resource Planning.
I’m currently residing in Santa Barbara, California where I make my living doing all sorts of GIS work. My “day job” is with Geosyntec where I focused on developing GIS/database systems for environmental risk assessment, water resources management and hydrogeology. On the side I run a small private consulting operation, mainly working with web GIS setups, sys admin, data creation, analysis and application development.
Besides my love of maps, I also spend a good deal of time cycling (I’m an avid road and mountain biker), running with my dog, playing disc golf and spending time with my girlfriend in those all-too-rare moments of free time. When I get a weekend off, you’ll either find me backpacking or travelling to see some good live music.
